Gold-toned kallitype on thin paper with metal leaf on the back.
This moody print has metallic highlights.
Kallitype is an iron and silver basic photographic process done directly onto a natural fiber paper of tissue weight. During processing the print is toned replacing the iron with more archivally stable gold. The metal leaf has been adhered with acid-free metal sizing to the reverse side of the paper and can be seen through as sparkles and metallic highlights throughout the image.
All of the printing steps have been done by hand by the artist.
During the summer of 2020 I worked with a team 3D printing and laser cutting parts to make face shields for frontline workers. This image is of a pile of the discarded flawed visors and funeral flowers.
